The Association of Public Diplomacy Scholars presents Michael Hammer, assistant secretary for public affairs with the U.S. Department of State.

Hammer is a career member of the U.S. Senior Foreign Service. He has served abroad in Bolivia, Norway, Iceland and Denmark. He has received several awards in his career, including the department's Edward R. Murrow Award for Excellence in Public Diplomacy.

In the department, he has served in the Operations Center and as special assistant to the Under Secretary for Political Affairs.

Hammer has also served at the White House as Special Assistant to the President, Senior Director for Press and Communications, National Security Council Spokesman and Director of Andean Affairs.
