: Supporting Peace-Building in Darfur-The Near East Foundation's Resources, Economic Security, and Peace Project in Darfur, Sudan
(Speakers)
Conversations in Conflict Studies Series
The RESP Project is supported by the United Nations Development Program's Darfur Community Peace and Stability Fund as part of the region's early recovery effort. It fosters conflict transformation through a range of activities, including training in collaborative natural resource management and conflict management. The Near East Foundation, along with Sudanese partner organizations, is working in Central and Western Darfur states.
Speakers: Mohamed Adam Dahia has two decades of experience working with development organizations in his home country of Sudan and with community service organizations in Canada. Peacebuilding has been a focus of his career, as he has facilitated training courses and community workshops, designed and managed a range of development projects and carried out field research. With Hand in Hand for Peace in Development he helped to alleviate tensions between warring parties in Darfur. He is currently the Darfur program manager for the Near East Foundation, with responsibility for two large projects aimed at reducing conflict over natural resources and helping people to regain livelihoods. He holds an M.A. in cultural anthropology from the University of Khartoum in Sudan.
A. Peter Castro is a PARCC associate and associate professor of anthropology. He has served as a consultant to the Near East Foundation, the United Nations and other international organizations.
